Step-by-step Setup

Below are step-by-step instructions for configuring Microsoft Windows XP to connect to Brick Network.  This will create a dial-up connection and configure Outlook Express to check your Brick e-mail account.

1. From the Desktop click on Start and then Run.

 

2. This will bring up the Open Dialog box. In the box type, inetwiz and click OK.

 

3. This will open the Internet Connection Wizard. In the first step select " Connect using my phone line," then click Next.

 

4. If prompted, choose the option for "Create a new dial-up connection," then click Next.

 

5. This step will prompt you for a phone number. Enter the dail-up number that was given to you when you signed up. If unsure of what number to use a list of phone numbers can be found here. After entering the phone number uncheck the box that says, "Use area code and dialing rules." This will grey out the Area code and Country code. Then click on Advanced.

 

6. This will open the Advanced Connection Properties window. Check the box that says, "Disable LCP Extensions." Then click OK then Next.

 

7. In this step enter the username and password that you selected when you signed up for service. After entering the username and password, click Next. Please note a fully qualified domain names is required when dialing up. For example, if your username is john then you will use john@brick.net. Usernames and passwords are case sensitive. Usernames will be all lower case, and passwords will be as requested at signup.

 

8. The next step will ask for a name for this connection. In this box type Brick Network and click Next.

 

9. It will now ask if you want to set up an internet mail account. Choose Yes and click Next.

 

10. If prompted, select Create a new Internet mail account and click Next.

 

11. Now it will ask for a Display Name. This will be the name that appears with your e-mail address when sending a message. Enter your name as you'd like it to appear. This field allows for capital letters, spaces and special characters. After entering your name click Next.

 

12.  Enter your e-mail address and click Next.

 

13. This step asks for the account type and the names of the incoming and outgoing mail servers. The type of mail server is POP3. The names for the incoming and outgoing mail servers will be mail.brick.net. After entering this click Next.

 

14. Now it asks for the account name and password. This field should already be filled in with the first portion of you're e-mail address. Enter the password and click Next.

 

15. Click Finish to complete the configuration.

 

16. This will return you to your desktop. To connect to the Internet you will need to open Internet Explorer or Outlook Express and Windows will prompt you to dial up.
