Configuring Outlook Express For SMTP Authentication

1. Begin by starting your Outlook Express program

 

2. Next, at the top, in the menubar, locate the Tools menu.

 

3. In the Tools menu, scroll down and select the Accounts... option

 

4. On the Accounts window, select the Mail tab at the top of the window, and select your account (if there are multiple accounts listed) by clicking on it once.

Then click the Properties button located on the right.

 

5. Once the Properties window opens, select the Servers tab at the top of the window.

On this screen, the following information should be set:

Incoming Mail: (one of the following depending on your email address: @brick.net = mail.brick.net or @i1.net = mail.i1.net)
mail.brick.net
mail.i1.net

Outgoing Mail: (one of the following depending on your email address -- should match your incoming server settings)
mail.brick.net
mail.i1.net

Account Name: (everything to the left of the "@" symbol in your email address)
johndoe (without the @brick.net or @i1.net)

Password: (can only be typed if the Remember Password option below it is checked)

Log on using Secure Password Authentication: (should NEVER be checked)

My server requires authentication: (must be checked to send mail)
By clicking on the Settings button to the right of this option, the Outgoing Mail Server window opens, and you should verify that the "Use same settings as my incoming mail server." option is selected.
