Step-by-step Setup

Below are step-by-step instructions for configuring Microsoft Windows XP and Windows 2000 to connect to Brick Network.  This will create a dial-up connection and configure Outlook Express to check your Brick e-mail account.

1. From the Desktop click on Start and then Run.

 

2. This will bring up the Open Dialog box. In the box type, inetwiz and click OK.

 

3. This will open the Internet Connection Wizard. In the first step select " Connect using my phone line," then click Next.

 

4. If prompted, choose the option for "Use a existing dial-up connection," then click Next.

 

5. This step will ask you if you want to change the settings. You will click Yes, then click next.

6. This step will prompt you for a phone number. Enter the new dail-up number for your area. If unsure of what number to use a list of phone numbers can be found here.. After entering the phone number uncheck the box that says, "Use area code and dialing rules." This will grey out the Area code and Country code. Then click on Advanced.

 

7. This will open the Advanced Connection Properties window. Check the box that says, "Disable LCP Extensions." Then click OK then Next.

 

8. In this step enter the username and password that you selected when you signed up for service. After entering the username and password, click Next. Please note a fully qualified domain names is required when dialing up. For example, if your username is john then you will use john@brick.net. Usernames and passwords are case sensitive. Usernames will be all lower case, and passwords will be as requested at signup.

 

9. It will now ask if you want to set up an internet mail account. Choose Yes and click Next.

 

10. If prompted, select Use a existing Internet mail account and click Next.

 

11. This step will ask you if you want accept or to change the settings. You will click Accept Settings, then click next.

 

12. Click Finish to complete the configuration.

 

13. From the Desktop click on Start and then Run. In the run box type "msimn.exe" then click "OK". This will open your outlook express.

 

14. From outlook express click on tools then accounts, this will open up your accounts tab.

 

15. Now click on the mail tab and select your account, then click on properties.

 

16. Click on the servers tab. Now click the box at the bottom of the page that says "My Server Requires Authentication".

 

17. Now click Settings, then select "Use Same Settings As My Incoming Mail Server". Now click Ok, then click Ok again, then Close. Now you have made the necessary changes.

 

18. Close your outlook express, this should save the changes. Reopen it log onto the internet and enjoy.
